“Today is a bad day for the Portuguese cycling. Yes, we had a bad TT stage at Cymru Taith that put both our GC riders out of a top9 place, this was annoying and disappointing, but we’re not here lament this, we will forget tours for this season and hope the TT stages curse disappear before next season.
We’re here to talk about the ban applied to the top Portuguese team in OCM, redop. We are going to use the FREE redop logo to show our support for the redop cause and hope this ban will be removed quickly. We also hope Team iPower, which was also banned for the same reasons, to return quickly to OCM as we think these bans were wrongly applied.” stated the CycleMotor’s management.
Redop has been ban from all OCM competition, and been prohibited from all kind of business. This is really bad for the Portuguese cycling ending the career of some of the best Portuguese riders, the most known being Vasco Assis. This also affects the national team since the manager elleniko was also responsible for the national team, which due to his suspension is without manager for the time being.
This ban has been applied because of an irregular sign up for Perm Tour. The team couldn’t sign up normally to Perm Tour because of bureaucratic problems even having a reserved spot, so the team management found a way to sign up anyway, because this was a major objective for the team’s season and they gained their right to participate with last season’s second place. OCM board considered this sign up irregular and banned the team.
CycleMotor and redop had a good business partnership, having made several deals since the beginning of CycleMotor. The biggest transfer made between these two teams was of CycleMotor’s former cobbler captain Nuno Meira, now riding for wild mountain team.
